More people are losing their homes in Detroit than in any other place in the country. At 4 times the national average, more than 41, 000 homes in the city will be foreclosed this year alone. That's 4% of the families in my hood that are now added to the homeless stats. One-third of the population lives under the poverty line. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23137436

Oh my goodness, Carlos. I had no idea. This is so sad. I for one love Detroit. I remember when I was travelling and teaching for GM - my visits to the city, seeing Prince at the Fox Theatre and checking out some of the areas that were beginning to be revitalized. I'm from Newark, so I know how low both cities had been and I could see hope for my hometown by finding hope in Detroit.
This is truly painful. All of those lost industrial jobs (even mine - I lost my GM contract in '99) have taken a huge toll.
Now what does McCain, Clinton, or Obama have to say about this? And what is this numbskull president we have now going to do about this situation? People just cannot lose their dreams like this; we can't let this happen.
